I would like to personally thank everyone that donated and showed up to remember the life of Steven Bowen before he is laid to rest. Steven would have been proud of the generosity and love that was given in his honor.
Rest in peace my friend!
It is with sad regret that I must inform everyone that Steven passed away around 8:50 AM EST.
Rest in peace my friend.
Steven’s battle with cancer has been a long and treacherous road. He was first diagnosed with Leukemia in 1996 and fought a hard battle, but succeeded in beating the disease. Steven went on to live a normal life for the next 10 years, until he was diagnosed a second time with Leukemia. Again, Steven fought rigorously and again, beat the disease.
It wasn’t until 2011 when Steven was given another bad diagnosis. This time, it was rectal cancer. Steven again fought hard and diligent to fight this new form of cancer. After several months, again, Steven was considered in remission.
Almost a year to the date, Steven received another bout of bad news. His rectal cancer returned, and this time, it metastasized to his liver. This time, Steven went out of state to receive treatment for this disease. Within a few short months, Steven was forced to quit his job and focus on his health. Due to the high cost of health care, Steven went through his 401K in just a few short months, and during this time, found out that the cancer had metastasized to his lungs, abdomen, and lymph nodes.
For the past year, Steven has tried several different forms of chemotherapy and radiation. He even went through a clinical trial, but to no avail, none of these treatments were able to eradicate the disease from his body.
Steven was forced to decide quality over quantity and entered Hospice Care this past October.
Steven has fought long and hard to beat this horrendous disease and recently, he has been marked as actively dying by Hospice. Due to our current health care issues, Steven was never able to get any form of life insurance, and due to the tremendous cost to survive, he has lost all his savings and possessions.
Steven will never lose the battle to cancer. Even though his body is ready to give out, the disease never destroyed his will.
