Is the US on the expressway of turning its labor force to 3rd world citizens?

Every day I am more amazed at what is going on behind the scenes in this country. For the past few months all we heard is how bad the unions are. They are evil and they are hell bent on destroying businesses in this country. Now, I have been reading that many would love to get rid of minimum wage all together.

Get rid of minimum wage? WTF?!?

Well I thought I would expand my horizons and start reading why many would like to get rid of minimum wage. Here is a short list.

The vast majority of economists believe the minimum wage law costs the economy thousands of jobs.

Teenagers, workers in training, college students, interns, and part-time workers all have their options and opportunities limited by the minimum wage.

A low-paying job remains an entry point for those with few marketable skills.

Abolishing the minimum wage will allow businesses to achieve greater efficiency and lower prices.

When you force American companies to pay a certain wage, you increase the likelihood that those companies will outsource jobs to foreign workers, where labor is much cheaper.

Non-profit charitable organizations are hurt by the minimum wage.

The minimum wage can drive some small companies out of business.

A minimum wage gives businesses an additional incentive to mechanize duties previously held by humans.

Cost-of-living differences in various areas of the country make a universal minimum wage difficult to set.

Elimination of the minimum wage would mean more citizens and fewer illegals would be hired for low-pay hourly jobs, leading to greater tax revenues and less incentive for illegal immigration.

The minimum wage creates a competitive advantage for foreign companies, providing yet another obstacle in the ability of American companies to compete globally.

The minimum wage law is just another example of government condescendingly controlling our actions and destroying personal choice. Citizens do have the ability to say no to a lower wage.

Now some of this may sound good in theory, but lets look at the issues in what many call reality.

First off, in times of economic turmoil (like today), how many of our citizens would be forced to work for pennies a day just to get an income? Many state that citizens have the right to say no to low wages, but when the only jobs out there are hiring for lets say $1.00 an hour, you tell me, if you are almost starving I think you would take anything you can get just to feed your family.

Removing the minimum wage does nothing to curb price control nor does it do anything for what many used to call the middle class. Can you honestly state that your company would not drop your wages in a heartbeat to up their profits if this law was removed? Can you honestly tell me that if this law was removed you could even afford the necessities to survive?

It seems as though our government has been and will continue to lie in bed with businesses that are hell bent in destroying the middle class of this country and would love to impoverish you to nothing more then slave wages just because of their god MONEY.

If this law was removed, do you really think all our costs would come down? Do you think health care would become affordable? Do you think your utilities would become more affordable? I don’t think so. Many of you are rallying to help destroy the unions that have helped build and protect American labor, but your not seeing the whole picture. Once the unions are destroyed, so will your rights be destroyed! The only thing standing between you and the corporations is the Union. You see corporations, as you all have admitted, don’t care about you, they only care about profits. Once they can remove that law, you will be nothing more then than the poor citizens of a 3rd world country because you willingly sold your life for the profits of others.

The minimum wage is at best a safety net for those new to the work force, without many job skills, working poor, and those retired folks that are trying to make ends meet after a life of toil for the companies they worked for. Those who try to exist in this country on the minimum wage soon find out that 8hrs a day is not enough and many opt for more jobs or hours to make ends meet. The corporatists and their lobbying and media mouthpieces will do their best to boost profits. If the minimum wage wasn't there what would these segments of society be left with. Virtually nothing, poverty, hate, apathy. No one should trust a corporatist with their future financial or otherwise. The are in it for themselves as recent evidence with how they feel about a National Health Care option brings out their fangs. They have a complete disconnect when talking social issues and really only know dollars and cents. One thing to think about if you are a corporatist is that if all the people today didn't have the minimum wage and were reduced to a wage that left them with no money. How would you sell your products. There are millions of people working for minimum age out there spending. Without those dollars the economy would take a down turn. This wouldn't please the stockholders now would it. Why do corporatist need to bite part of the hand that feeds them. I will generalize and say that most corporatists really don't see past next weeks profits, and don't care about people trying to make ends meets and whats fair. The law was put there originally becuase it was demonstrated years ago that business would not give a fair wage given the opportunity. They did not share the profits with the people that made their products and keep it for the themselves and their shareholders. If you want to make America a complete oligarchy take away the unions and the minimum wage. The inequity between the have's and the have not's is getting bigger. The middle class is getting smaller because they don't have as much money as when unions were a larger part of the work force. I have personally experienced working in the IT environment that my overtime is not counted and we are considered where we work as Salary exempt status. This was put into place when the computer revolution was just starting. The founders IBM, MS and Apple got the gov to take away any of the 40 hour rules that would normally apply to IT workers. I calculated during one job I had the the total overtime not paid to me was in excess of 30,000 over a 2 year period. So with that in mind the peeps need to do all they can to keep the minimum wage here in the US and spread it to foreign lands. The WTO would freak if the minimum wage went multi-national. That would go a long way to leveling the wage playing field world wide and reduce the seat shops now in operation all over the world.

It is a dog eat dog world out there. How quickly we will slip into the status of a 3rd world country if "We the People" allow this.
